Drug Trader Sent to 40-Day Tabligh Mission with Financial Aid in Narayanganj

In Araihazar, Narayanganj, a man allegedly involved in drug trading has been sent to a 40-day Tabligh mission (Chilla) as part of an initiative to build a “drug- and crime-free Araihazar.” Alongside this, he was given 50,000 BDT in financial assistance.

The individual, Manjur Hossain (38), a resident of Baghanagar area of Araihazar পৌরসভা, is the son of Mozammel Haque.

According to locals, Manjur had been involved in drug dealing for a long time and had previously served jail terms twice. However, he reportedly returned to the same activities after his release.

Sources said that on Friday night, frustrated residents surrounded his house over allegations of drug trading. The matter was later brought to the attention of local MP Nazrul Islam Azad, who sent his younger brother Rakibul Islam Rakib to the scene. After discussions with community leaders, it was decided to give Manjur a chance to reform.

He was then provided 50,000 BDT and sent on a 40-day Tabligh Chilla, with the aim of helping him abandon drug activities and return to a normal life.

Rakibul Islam Rakib said:

“To build a drug- and crime-free Araihazar, not only law enforcement but also opportunities for reform are necessary.”

Before leaving for the Chilla, Manjur Hossain stated:

“I have realized my mistakes. I want to make use of the opportunity given by the locals and follow the right path in the future.”

Several local political and community figures were present during the process, including leaders of the Upazila BNP and municipal BNP.
