After a gap of over one and a half decades, the traditional military parade is set to return on March 26, marking Bangladesh’s Independence Day with renewed grandeur and significance.
The event will take place at the National Parade Ground, where members of the Army, Navy, and Air Force will showcase the country’s defence capabilities through both ground and aerial displays. In preparation, several rounds of rehearsals have already been completed by the armed forces and other security agencies.
President Mohammed Shahabuddin will receive the salute, while Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is expected to attend the ceremony.
The event aims to highlight the readiness and commitment of the armed forces in protecting national sovereignty. The parade will be commanded by Major General Asadul Haque, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 9th Infantry Division.
Participants will include contingents from the Army, Navy, Air Force, along with various law enforcement agencies. The parade will begin with the ceremonial entry of the parade commander on horseback.
This year’s parade will feature units from:
- Armoured Corps
- Artillery
- Signals
- East Bengal Regiment
- Air Defence
- Services
- Para Commandos
- Naval Units
- Modernized Infantry Contingents
A major highlight will be the airborne display, where paratroopers will descend carrying the national flag. The Air Force will also conduct tactical aerial demonstrations.
The event will conclude with a flypast by MiG-29 fighter jets, saluting the President and marking the end of the parade.
“The return of this parade after a long time will make the Independence Day celebrations more vibrant and meaningful,”
said relevant officials.
The revival of this traditional parade is expected to add greater pride, discipline, and national spirit to this year’s Independence Day celebrations.
