Three workers of the Dhaka Electricity Supply Company (DESCO) were electrocuted while installing underground power lines in Khilkhet, Dhaka, on Sunday afternoon. The incident also left two others seriously injured.
The accident occurred in the Kharapara area near a local temple, where the workers were lifting electrical wires from underground using a crane. During the operation, they accidentally came into contact with a live overhead wire, resulting in electrocution.
The deceased have been identified as:
- Md. Rajib Hossain (25) from Barguna Sadar Upazila
- Razzak Mia (57)
- Farid Jaman (64) from Baksiganj, Jamalpur
The identities of the two injured workers have not been confirmed yet.
All five were outsourced (sub-contractor) employees of DESCO. The deceased have been taken to Kurmitola General Hospital, where the injured are also receiving treatment.
Khilkhet police confirmed the incident, with Officer-in-Charge Abdul Alim stating that the workers were handling underground cables when the accident occurred. Local residents quickly rescued them and rushed them to the hospital, but three were declared dead on arrival.
This tragic incident highlights the risks faced by electricity workers during field operations, particularly when safety measures are not strictly followed.
