Police in Dhaka on Saturday evening detained six individuals in front of Tarek Rahman’s residence in Gulshan, citing involvement in begging. Despite repeated instructions to move, the group did not comply, prompting authorities to take them to the local police station after Iftar.
The detainees are Khoda Box Akter (26), Khadija Begum (40), Khadija Begum (35), Saheda Begum (48), Rina Akter (48), and Mohammad Siddiq (40).
Gulshan Police Station OC Rakibul Hasan said,
“They were beggars, occupying the area. Security personnel repeatedly asked them to leave, but they did not. After being informed, we brought them to the station after Iftar.”
He added,
“Nothing serious has happened. We provided them seats and food and are talking to them. Further action will be decided after consultation with senior officials.”
Earlier, before the elections on January 4 and the previous night, police had arrested three individuals in front of Tarek Rahman’s residence and the BNP office, who claimed to be his supporters.
