In a bid to ensure protein access for 10 lakh low-income families during the holy month of Ramadan, the government has launched a program to sell milk, eggs, and meat at subsidized prices. The initiative will operate across 25 locations in Dhaka, aiming to reduce nutritional deficiencies among vulnerable groups.
On Thursday (February 19), at the inauguration of the subsidised sales programme at the Livestock Research Institute in Mohakhali, State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock, Sultan Salauddin Tuku, said,
“This year, 10 lakh families will be able to purchase milk, eggs and meat at lower prices. To achieve this, sales points have been set up in 25 locations across Dhaka, including Uttara, Azimpur, and Mirpur. The program will continue throughout Ramadan.”
He also added, “To implement the government’s election pledges, initiatives will be taken to launch the Family Card, Agriculture Card, and Health Card. To meet public expectations, emphasis will be placed on integrity, dedication, and coordinated teamwork.”
The inauguration was chaired by Dr. Md. Abu Sufian, Director General of the Department of Livestock Services. Special guests included Abu Taher Muhammad Jaber, Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock; Moshiur Rahman, President of the Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council (BPICC); and Mohammad Iqbal Hossain, President of the Bangladesh Cattle and Fattening Farmers Association (BCFFA). Senior officials from the ministry and its departments were also present.
