Nahid Islam: We Cannot Leave an Unfit State for Future Generations

We Cannot Leave an Unfit State for Future Generations

National Citizens Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam has sharply criticized the current state of the country, declaring it “unfit” in terms of infrastructure, governance, and leadership. Speaking at a road rally held at Alfat Square in Sunamganj Municipality on Friday afternoon, he said, “We live in a country where buses and planes are not fit. People are not fit, and even the state is not fit.”

Nahid Islam directly blamed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, stating, “Sheikh Hasina has imposed an unfit state on us. We cannot leave such an unfit state for future generations. It is our responsibility.”

He further emphasized the party’s mission, saying, “We have to build the fitness of this state, even if it is to fulfill the aspirations of your children who gave their lives on the streets. We have to repair this state. And the National Citizens Party was established to repair that state.”

The rally was moderated by NCP joint convener Anik Roy and attended by several senior party leaders, including northern region chief organizer Sarjis Alam, southern region chief organizer Hasnat Abdullah, senior joint convener Samantha Sharmin, joint convener Ariful Islam, senior joint member secretary Tasnim Zara, and district joint coordinator Abu Saleh Nasim. Dewan Sajaur Raja Chowdhury, great-grandson of district NCP chief coordinator Hasan Raja, delivered the welcome speech.

Earlier, NCP’s central leaders arrived in Sunamganj on Thursday night and stayed at the Circuit House. Following Friday prayers, they launched a political march from the city’s central Model Jama Masjid. The procession moved through various roads before concluding with the rally at Alfat Square at 3 PM.

The event drew significant attention as the party continues to position itself as a platform for systemic reform and an alternative voice in national politics.
