Tarique Rahman Elected Leader of the House and Prime Minister

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) parliamentary party has unanimously elected Tarique Rahman as the leader of the House and the new Prime Minister of Bangladesh.

The decision was finalized during a parliamentary party meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban (National Parliament Building) on Tuesday morning, shortly after the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected Members of Parliament.

New Cabinet Announced

Following the election, the composition of the new BNP government’s cabinet was announced. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Secretary-General of the party, will join the cabinet.

Other notable members appointed to the cabinet include:

  • Mirza Abbas
  • Salahuddin Ahmed
  • Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury
  • Dr. Moin Khan
  • Goyeshwar Chandra Roy
  • Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Aanny
  • Ehsanul Haque Milon
  • Jonayed Saki
  • Nurul Haque Nur

Strict Austerity Measures

In a significant move towards austerity and transparency, the parliamentary party meeting resolved that BNP lawmakers will adhere to strict guidelines. It was decided that no MP will take a duty-free car or accept any government plot.
