An Assistant Sub-Inspector of police died after reportedly suffering a heart attack while conducting a raid to arrest a warrant-listed accused in Pirganj Upazila early Sunday.

The deceased, Shahidul Islam Shahid, was serving as an ASI at Pirganj Police Station. The incident occurred around 1:00 am in Senua village under Bhomradah Union. Officer-in-Charge Mazharul Islam confirmed the death.

According to police sources, a team from Pirganj Police Station conducted a drive in Senua village to arrest a warrant-listed accused. After successfully detaining one individual, ASI Shahidul Islam suddenly complained of severe chest pain while placing the arrested person into the vehicle.

He was immediately taken to Pirganj Upazila Health Complex, where on-duty physician Dr. Tanzina declared him dead.

Dr. Tanzina said,
“He had already passed away before being brought to the hospital. At this moment, I cannot say the exact cause of death. However, he was suffering from sudden chest pain, which suggests he may have had a heart attack. The exact cause can be confirmed after an autopsy.”

OC Mazharul Islam added that police are initially assuming he died of a heart attack, though the exact cause will be confirmed following further examination.
