13th Parliament Sees Wide Generational Representation: Hannan Masud Youngest, Mosharraf Hossain Oldest

The results of the 13th national parliamentary elections highlight a wide generational representation in Parliament. Among the elected candidates, the youngest is Abdul Hannan Masud, a leader of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), while the oldest is Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain, born on October 1, 1946, is currently 79 years and 4 months old. Contesting from Cumilla-1 (Daudkandi-Meghna) under the Dhon symbol, he secured 141,440 votes, defeating his nearest rival, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Md. Moniruzzaman, who received 94,845 votes. Mosharraf previously contested in the same constituency during the 9th parliamentary election in 2008, where he finished second with 96,378 votes.

On the other hand, Abdul Hannan Masud, elected from Noakhali-6 (Hatia) under the Shapla Kali symbol, received 91,899 votes, defeating his closest competitor, BNP’s Mahbubur Rahman Shamim, who received 64,021 votes. Born on January 1, 2000, Hannan Masud is currently 26 years and 1 month old. This election marks his first contest. He joined the NCP after taking a leading role in the July mass movement and contested as a candidate supported by the 11-party alliance.

This generational spread reflects a mix of experience and youth in the new Parliament, signalling wider representation across age groups.
