A group of armed men reportedly opened fire, targeting the residence of an expatriate BNP activist in Chattogram’s Raozan upazila, a day before voting.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at the home of UAE expatriate Rustam Ali in Shamsherpara village under Kadalpur Union. Upon receiving information, police and a team from the Bangladesh Army rushed to the scene. However, the attackers had already fled by the time law enforcement arrived.
Police said they found no suspects at the location. Although officers spoke with members of the expatriate’s family, no confirmed information regarding the identities of the armed individuals was obtained.
According to residents and police sources, between 10 and 12 armed men suddenly entered Shamsherpara village and fired several blank shots aimed at Rustam Ali’s house. The group allegedly hurled abusive language before leaving the area. Administrative officials later visited the scene.
Party sources said Rustam Ali is known as a supporter of BNP parliamentary candidate Gias Uddin Kader Chowdhury in the Raozan constituency.
Raozan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sajedul Islam told reporters that police, accompanied by army personnel, visited the scene immediately after receiving reports of gunfire. “The reason behind the firing is not yet clear. We have not been able to confirm who was involved. An investigation is underway, and legal action will be taken accordingly,” he said.
Authorities have not reported any casualties in connection with the incident.
