BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman arrived in Rajshahi today, Thursday (January 29), to lead a major election campaign for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election. Upon his arrival, he paid his respects at the shrine of Hazrat Shah Makhdum (R).
According to party sources, Tarique Rahman landed at Shah Makhdum Airport shortly after 12:00 PM. He then proceeded directly to the shrine at approximately 1:30 PM, where he offered prayers and signed the visitors’ book. This visit marks his return to the silk city after nearly 22 years; his last visit was in 2004 for a union representative conference.
Key Highlights of the Visit:
- The Grand Rally: Tarique Rahman is scheduled to join a massive election rally at the historic Madrasa Maidan as the chief guest.
- Candidate Introduction: From the rally stage, he will formally introduce 13 BNP-nominated candidates representing constituencies across Rajshahi, Natore, and Chapainawabganj.
- Northern Region Tour: Following the Rajshahi event, the BNP chief is expected to head to Naogaon and Bogura to address further public gatherings.
The city of Rajshahi has taken on a festive look, adorned with banners, festoons, and arches to welcome the leader. Local leaders noted that his presence has sparked a “new wave” of enthusiasm among activists in North Bengal.
Security has been significantly tightened around the Madrasa Maidan and the surrounding areas to ensure the safety of the thousands of supporters gathering from across the region.
