BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas criticized Jamaat-e-Islami on Victory Day, stating that if Ghulam Azam and his cohorts are considered the “best sons of the nation,” then the heroic freedom fighters are being insulted, and the position of the freedom fighters is being questioned.
Mirza Abbas made these remarks to journalists this morning at the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar after paying tribute to the valiant martyrs of the Liberation War.
⚔️ Criticism of Jamaat
Mirza Abbas criticized Jamaat, saying the party did not desire peace for the country from 1947 through 1971, and still does not. He alleged that they did not want the country’s independence, and they still do not. He added that they want the country to face a crisis, fall into a bad situation, and remain unstable.
📅 Seventy-One vs. Twenty-Four
Responding to a question from journalists about whether ’71 (1971) and ’24 (2024) are being pitted against each other, Mirza Abbas said that ’71 and ’24 exist in their own glory and position. He stated that there is no comparison between ’71 and ’24, nor is there any possibility of one. With this comment, he avoided comparing the current political situation with the spirit of the Liberation War.
🗳️ Expectation for a Fair Election
Wishing the nation a happy Victory Day on behalf of the party’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, and asking for prayers for BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, Mirza Abbas said:
“Today’s Victory Day and the upcoming election are being observed while keeping the thoughts and all considerations of the masses in mind.”
The BNP leader further added that the hopes, aspirations, and enthusiasm for nation-building that existed after independence have been shattered by the Awami League.
He expressed hope that the government will arrange a fair election in the future and reflect the aspirations of the people.
Also present with Mirza Abbas were BNP Standing Committee members Salauddin Ahmed and Abdul Moyeen Khan, along with BNP Chairperson’s advisor Amanullah Aman, and central and local leaders of the party.
