In a historic development for Bangladesh football, BFF President Tabith Awal has secured a seat on one of FIFA’s most influential committees, signaling a new era of global engagement for the country’s football leadership.
Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) President Tabith Awal has been appointed to FIFA’s Football Technology, Innovation & Digital Transformation Committee, marking the first time he has joined a FIFA committee. The appointment comes as part of FIFA’s newly formed committees for the 2025–2029 tenure, underscoring Bangladesh’s growing presence in international football governance.
This appointment is being seen as a significant milestone for Tabith Awal, who took over the BFF presidency earlier this year with promises of modernization and greater international collaboration. The committee he joins plays a crucial role in shaping global football’s technological future — including the development and implementation of VAR, data analytics, and digital innovations that are increasingly defining the modern game.
“This is not just a personal achievement. It’s a recognition of Bangladesh’s place in the global football ecosystem,” a senior BFF official told Gonotaar.
Alongside Tabith Awal, Mahfuza Akhter Kiron, Chairperson of the BFF Women’s Wing, has been appointed to the FIFA Youth Girls’ Competitions Committee. Kiron, a familiar face in FIFA circles, has previously served on the Executive Committee and multiple standing committees.
Unlike in previous years when names were sent to FIFA through internal nominations, this year’s appointments were made directly by FIFA. Under former BFF president Kazi Salahuddin, nominations were often forwarded without formal board discussions, a practice that many criticized as non-transparent.
For Tabith Awal, however, this direct appointment is being interpreted as a vote of confidence from FIFA in his leadership. It aligns with his stated vision to integrate technology and data into Bangladesh’s football ecosystem — from grassroots to the professional level.
