No Alliance with BNP or Jamaat: NCP Eyes July Uprising Allies, Plans 150-Seat Surge

NCP rejects BNP and Jamaat alliances, seeks July Uprising allies

The National Citizen Party (NCP) will not align with the BNP or Jamaat for the upcoming national election, NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary confirmed today after meeting the Election Commission (EC) leadership.

“We will form an alliance with those who stood by us during the July Uprising,” Patwary told reporters at the EC headquarters.

He expressed confidence that the party can secure 150 seats in the election, while fielding candidates in all 300 constituencies. “The political scenario is shaping into three blocks: one Islamic, one under BNP, and one under NCP leadership,” he added.

Patwary emphasized the consolidation of youth movements and smaller parties under the NCP banner. “Over the past 15 years, many young activists have formed parties. Many have now agreed to join NCP. The decision is made: all banners from the past 15 years will unite. A larger youth alliance is coming together.”

Regarding the Gono Odhikar Parishad, Patwary confirmed merger talks. “Yes, discussions are ongoing. We have agreed in principle. This is an ideological struggle, not about a few seats. The party name will remain NCP, and our symbol, the water lily (‘Shapla’), will be used.”

On the election front, Patwary predicted limited gains for BNP, estimating they may secure only 50–100 seats. He also made it clear that NCP aims to prevent Awami League and Jatiyo Party candidates from winning seats in parliament.

“The next parliament will not have anyone from Awami League or Jatiyo Party,” he said, reaffirming the party’s commitment to youth-led, pro-democracy politics.

Patwary also expressed optimism about the party’s EC registration, stating that “some good news is coming” soon.
