As the holy Eid-ul-Fitr approaches, people are returning home to celebrate with their families. On Tuesday (March 17) morning, heavy crowds heading home were observed along the Dhaka-Mawa highway.
However, vehicles crossing the Padma Bridge’s Mawa end in Munshiganj—connecting 21 districts of the south-western region—have been able to reach their destinations smoothly without any traffic jams. Despite high traffic on the highway, no congestion has been reported on the bridge itself.
At the toll plaza, seven separate counters for large vehicles and three for motorcycles are in operation, ensuring quick toll collection. As a result, drivers are able to cross the bridge without long queues, and passengers expressed satisfaction at the hassle-free Eid travel.
Passenger Concerns
Some travelers, however, raised concerns over excessive fares. Many reported that transport services are charging more than the standard Eid fares, which is dampening the festive spirit despite smooth traffic flow.
Police Measures
The Munshiganj District Police Superintendent said that law enforcement is actively working to ensure smooth traffic and passenger safety on both the Dhaka-Chattogram and Dhaka-Mawa highways. Approximately 500 police personnel have been deployed at key points along the highways.
The Superintendent emphasized that the police are maintaining strict vigilance to prevent any unpleasant incidents and curb passenger harassment during the Eid travel rush.
