The National Citizen Party (NCP) has expelled its joint secretary Mahin Sarkar, citing what it described as “serious breaches of party discipline.”
The decision was formalized on Monday (18 August) through an official letter signed by NCP Joint Secretary (Office) Saleh Uddin Sifat. The letter stated that, following the directives of NCP Convener Nahid Islam and Secretary Akhtar Hossain, Mahin Sarkar has been suspended from his position and relieved of all party responsibilities with immediate effect. The suspension will remain in force until further instructions are issued.
The expulsion comes at a crucial time, as Mahin Sarkar was preparing to contest the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) election for the post of General Secretary. His candidacy had drawn attention after he recently aligned with a panel joined by Sabbir Uddin Rion, a former member of the Bangladesh Democratic Student Council (BAGCHAS) Dhaka University unit, who resigned from his position earlier on the same day.
NCP has not provided further details on the specific allegations against Mahin Sarkar, but the move is being closely watched in political circles, particularly given the ongoing DUCSU race and the party’s organizational push following the July Uprising.
