Jamaat Ameer Diagnosed with Three Heart Blockages, Bypass Surgery Advised

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has been admitted to United Hospital in Dhaka after being diagnosed with three major blockages in his heart. Doctors have recommended immediate bypass surgery, though the final date for the procedure is yet to be confirmed.

The diagnosis came following a sudden health emergency on 19 July, when Shafiqur Rahman collapsed on stage during his speech at the party’s national rally at Suhrawardy Udyan. He was quickly attended to and placed under medical observation.

According to his personal assistant Nazrul Islam, a series of medical tests were conducted, culminating in an angiogram on 30 July under the supervision of senior cardiologist Dr Mominuzzaman. The tests revealed three significant blockages. “Doctors advised bypass surgery instead of angioplasty,” said Nazrul, adding that the Jamaat chief is currently in a “relatively stable” condition.

He further mentioned that Shafiqur Rahman was admitted around 11am on Tuesday as part of a scheduled health check-up and underwent the angiogram at approximately 4pm the same day.

The party has not yet announced when the surgery will take place.
