Student people took over Ganabhaban 5th August

Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki announced that August 5 will be officially observed as a public holiday from now on, marking the Student-People’s Uprising Day.

Speaking at a press conference held on Thursday, June 19, at the Foreign Service Academy, Farooki said, “A series of events will begin on July 1 to commemorate the July Uprising and will continue until August 5. The main programs will run from July 14. Just as the nation stood united during the movement, the commemorative programs will reflect that same spirit of unity.”

He further added that the formal announcement of the national holiday will be made during the upcoming Sunday’s meeting of the Advisory Council, where August 5 will officially be recognized as Student-People’s Movement Day.

In addition, Farooki noted that the government is considering making Radio Bangladesh (Bangladesh Betar) and Bangladesh Television (BTV) autonomous institutions. “Education adviser Dr. CR Abrar will lead the efforts in this regard,” he stated.
