Mike Huckabee, the U.S. Ambassador to Israel, recently said that the United States is no longer trying to create a Palestinian state in the West Bank. Instead, he suggested that the state of Palestine could be made in another place — somewhere else in the Middle East.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Huckabee said that Muslim countries together have much more land than Israel. He claimed they have “about 644 times more land” and asked why those countries can’t give up a small part of it for the Palestinians.
Many people online reacted strongly to his comments. On Reddit, a post quoting the BBC report started a lot of discussion. Some people were surprised and unhappy that Huckabee thinks Muslim countries should take responsibility for Palestine instead of Israel.
Right now, there is no official U.S. plan to talk to Muslim countries about giving land. Huckabee’s words seem to be his own opinion, not part of any new government decision.
