National Citizen Party (NCP) spokesperson Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan has called on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to introduce special “anti-extortion” and “anti-corruption” cards to address growing concerns over corruption and extortion in the country.
He made the remarks on Monday evening at a reception held at the party’s temporary central office in the capital, marking the formation of the newly constituted Dhaka South committee of the party.
Criticizing recent government measures, Asif Mahmud said there is an increasing trend of using “cards” as solutions to various problems. Referring to corruption and extortion as two of the country’s most pressing challenges, he argued that similar mechanisms should be introduced to combat these issues effectively.
“If ‘cards’ are being used to address different problems, then we need special cards to eliminate extortion and corruption, which are among the biggest threats facing the country,” he said.
Clarifying the party’s political stance, the NCP spokesperson stated that the party remains open to all citizens willing to serve the people. However, he firmly added that those involved in genocide, fascism, terrorism, or extortion will have no place in the party.
Launching a strong attack on the current administration, he alleged that the government has failed significantly in governance and has not upheld public expectations or respected the people’s mandate.
Pointing to the ongoing fuel crisis and broader economic challenges, he questioned the transparency of government information.
“The government claims there is sufficient fuel stock, but in reality, people are suffering in long queues at fuel stations,” he said.
“They are even trying to reframe the printing of 20,000 crore taka, which he described as absurd.”
He warned that such administrative weaknesses are becoming a serious concern for the country.
Addressing the upcoming local government elections, Asif Mahmud said the NCP is working to build a strong organizational foundation across the country. He assured voters that the party would take strict measures to ensure the protection of every vote.
“We will ensure the safety of every vote. At each polling center, we will maintain a strong presence and strict monitoring so that the people’s mandate is not misused,” he stated.
Several central leaders of the NCP also spoke at the event, welcoming members of the newly formed Dhaka South committee. Speakers pledged to intensify political activism in the coming days and continue their struggle to protect public rights.
