Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman Says Foreign Loans and Aid Prevent Nation from Standing on Its Own

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, has said that foreign loans and aid will not allow the nation to stand upright on its own feet.

He made the remarks on Saturday (April 11) at a discussion meeting titled “Ways to Overcome the Impact of Global Energy Crisis on Bangladesh’s Agriculture” held at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB), Farmgate, Dhaka.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said:

“We should learn from our past. Sin does not spare even its creator.”

“Power blinds people, which is why society is no longer truly seen or understood.”

He emphasized the importance of agriculture, stating:

“If agriculture survives, the country survives. We must not forget that agriculture is our primary, secondary, and tertiary priority.”

He also noted that no sector can function without energy, saying the country remains heavily dependent on fuel imports while also claiming local potential exists in oil and octane production.

Dr. Rahman further alleged inefficiency in resource extraction and management, saying natural resources remain underutilized due to lack of expertise and initiative.

He also criticized governance practices, referring to past policies and calling for reforms, including the formation of an independent Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

He added that politics must ensure accountability:

“If politics is right, all policies of the country will be right.”

The event was chaired by AFB President Agriculturist Dr. ATM Mahbub-e-Ilahi (Tawhid) and attended by AFB Secretary General Agriculturist Sheikh Muhammad Masud along with other leaders.
