Internet users across the country may experience slower speeds and potential service disruptions for three days starting Thursday night, as the country’s second submarine cable (SEA-ME-WE 5) undergoes essential maintenance.
In a press release issued today, Wednesday, Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC (BSCPLC) announced that the maintenance work at the Kuakata landing station is scheduled to begin at 10:00 PM on April 9 and is expected to conclude by 6:00 AM on April 13.
According to BSCPLC, the maintenance will temporarily affect circuits directed toward Singapore. As a result, internet users may face bandwidth limitations or partial service interruptions during this period.
However, the state-owned enterprise clarified that circuits connected through the country’s first submarine cable (SEA-ME-WE 4), located in Cox’s Bazar, will remain fully operational. Measures are being taken to route essential traffic through the first cable to minimize the impact on users.
Telecommunication experts suggest that while the first cable will remain active, the temporary loss of bandwidth from the second cable could still lead to noticeable lags during peak hours. Users are advised to plan data-heavy tasks accordingly until the maintenance is completed on Sunday morning.
