Satkhira Introduces Mandatory ‘Fuel Card’ for Motorcyclists

In Satkhira, it is now mandatory for motorcyclists to have a ‘Fuel Card’ bearing the district commissioner’s seal and signature to collect fuel. Even before this new directive took effect, long queues and inconvenience were reported at various filling stations across the district.

On Wednesday (25 March) night, District Information Officer Md. Jaharul Islam confirmed the new regulation to the media. According to a notice from the District Administration, from now on no motorcycle will be supplied fuel without a valid Fuel Card. Motorcyclists must collect fuel between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM daily, and no fuel will be provided outside these hours at any filling station or dealer point.

The notice further states that while collecting fuel, drivers must carry their driving license, vehicle registration number, and tax token. Additionally, wearing a helmet is mandatory.

The Fuel Card can be obtained from the District Commissioner’s office, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) offices, and the District Administration’s website. The sale of fuel in plastic bottles, drums, or any container is completely prohibited. Fuel trading in the open market or outside authorized filling stations is also banned. Violators of the directive will face strict legal action, the administration warned.

Meanwhile, the announcement of the new rule caused long lines of motorcyclists at several filling stations from Wednesday night. Many drivers expressed their frustration, seeing the Fuel Card as a hassle. Some said it would cause additional inconvenience for them in the future.

This regulation aims to control fuel distribution, prevent misuse, and ensure organized and legal fuel supply for motorcyclists in Satkhira.
