Iran has announced that the Strait of Hormuz remains open only to “friendly countries,” including Bangladesh, China, Russia, India, Iraq, and Pakistan. According to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, these countries have coordinated with Tehran and are allowed safe passage, while the route is closed to Iran’s enemies and their allies. The Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil transit route carrying about one-fifth of the world’s supply, has come under Iran’s control following recent military tensions involving the United States and Israel. Iran has stated it will not allow any oil shipments through the passage for its adversaries, but has ensured secure transit for allied nations’ vessels.
