The holy crescent of Shawwal was not sighted anywhere in the country on Friday, confirming that Ramadan will complete 30 days this year. Consequently, Eid al-Fitr will be observed on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
The decision came after a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Conference Hall in Dhaka on Friday evening. The meeting was presided over by Minister of Religious Affairs Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaykobad, who announced the committee’s conclusion in a press briefing.
Since the crescent was not sighted, the 30th day of Ramadan will be completed in Bangladesh, and Muslims across the country will celebrate Eid on Saturday. While in some Middle Eastern countries, particularly Saudi Arabia, the Shawwal crescent was sighted a day earlier, it could not be seen in Bangladesh this year.
As per the religious calendar, Saturday has been officially declared as Eid, confirming that the festival will not fall on Sunday.
