Tarique Rahman Holds High-Level Meeting with Charmonai Pir Ahead of Government Formation

As the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) prepares to take the reins of government, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman paid a courtesy visit to Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, the Ameer of Islami Andolan Bangladesh and widely known as the Charmonai Pir, on Monday evening.

Rahman arrived at the Charmonai Pir’s residence in the capital’s Siddheshwari area at approximately 7:15 PM, where he was warmly welcomed.

The meeting holds significant political weight as the BNP moves to finalize its coalition structure following a landslide victory in the 13th National Parliament Election held on February 12.

Key leaders accompanied the BNP Chairman, including BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan.

Representing Islami Andolan Bangladesh were Naeb-e-Ameer Mufti Syed Muhammad Fayzul Karim and Secretary General Principal Maulana Yunus Ahmad.

This meeting is part of a series of high-profile visits by Rahman. On Sunday evening, the BNP leader met with Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, followed by a visit to the residence of Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP).

These discussions are critical as the nation transitions to a new administration. The oath-taking ceremony for the newly elected Members of Parliament is scheduled for Tuesday morning, February 17, followed by the swearing-in of the new cabinet in the afternoon.
