A new pro-people political platform named the Network for People’s Action (NPA) officially launched today, Friday, at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital. Under the slogan “People’s Power, Future’s Liberation,” the platform aims to redefine Bangladesh’s political landscape through radical state reforms and citizen-centric governance.
The formal debut took place at 4:00 PM, drawing a significant gathering of activists, professionals, and supporters who began assembling at the historic monument since noon.
The Five Pillars of NPA
The platform’s political vision is anchored by five fundamental principles:
- Democracy
- Equality
- Human Dignity
- Social Justice
- Protection of Life and Nature
Transforming the State Structure
In its manifesto, the NPA criticized the existing power structure for turning state institutions into tools for rulers rather than servants of the people. The platform vowed to transform these institutions into rights-based, service-oriented bodies.
Key structural demands raised during the launch include:
- Effective and complete separation of the Legislature, Executive, and Judiciary.
- Decentralization of power to curb the rise of autocracy.
- Establishment of financially independent local government systems free from central interference.
Economic and Labor Reforms
Addressing the economic crisis, the NPA called for an end to the “syndicate-driven” and “looting” economy. Their proposed economic model focuses on:
- Agricultural Support: Reducing production costs, providing easy loans, and ensuring fair prices through subsidies.
- Labor Rights: Formulating a dignified wage structure for industrial workers.
- Progressive Taxation: Implementing a tax system that reduces wealth inequality and boosts state revenue fairly.
Environmental and Social Commitments
Highlighting Bangladesh’s climate vulnerability, the NPA pledged to fight against unplanned “mega-projects” that destroy the environment. They committed to stopping river encroachment, deforestation, and uncontrolled urbanization to build a sustainable and livable nation.
Furthermore, the platform emphasized that education, healthcare, and employment are fundamental duties of the state. They vowed to protect freedom of speech and religious liberty, ensuring equal rights for all citizens regardless of race, religion, gender, or class.
The event concluded with a call for all democratic and progressive forces to unite in establishing a politics based on the rights of the people.
