Bangladeshi Youth from Jamalpur Reportedly Killed in Drone Attack in Russia

A Bangladeshi youth from Madarganj Upazila in Jamalpur has reportedly been killed in a drone attack in Russia, according to his family. News of his death reached relatives on Sunday.

The deceased, identified as Mafal, was the son of Banu Mia from Char Gujamanika village under Karaichara Union of Madarganj Upazila.

Lost Contact After Arrival in Russia

Family members said Mafal had travelled to Russia one month and 12 days ago in search of employment. However, they lost contact with him after May 29, and he remained missing for several weeks.

Following the prolonged communication blackout, the family was informed that he had died in a drone attack.

Family Claims He Was Sent to War Zone

Mafal’s uncle, Anis, alleged that his nephew had been recruited through an agency with the promise of working as a construction laborer in Russia.

“He was told that he would work as a mason. But after arriving there, he was handed over to the Russian military and later sent to a war zone,”
Anis claimed.

He added that Mafal was reportedly killed in a drone strike while in the conflict area.

Family Seeks Return of the Body

Mafal’s brother, Ashraful Islam, appealed to the government for assistance in bringing his body back to Bangladesh.

“He went to Russia one month and 12 days ago. We have been informed that he died in a drone attack. We request the government to help return his body to the country,”
he said.

His sister, Asiya, claimed that around 30 Bangladeshis had traveled to Russia together and were later sent to an army camp.

“My brother repeatedly pleaded not to be sent there, but nobody listened. Our only request now is that the government bring his body home,”
she said.

Administration Looking Into the Matter

Suman Chowdhury, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Madarganj, said the administration had learned of the reported death and was contacting the family.

“We have heard about the reported death in Russia. We are communicating with the family. Necessary information will be collected and forwarded to the higher authorities,”
he said.

Authorities have not yet independently verified the circumstances of Mafal’s death. However, local administration officials said efforts are underway to gather details and coordinate with relevant government agencies.
