The house of a local Chhatra Dal leader was set on fire in Feni Sadar Upazila, allegedly in retaliation for his protests against extortion.
The incident took place on Friday evening in Shorshodi Union’s North Fatehpur village, where a group of miscreants reportedly attacked the residence of Mohammad Saifuddin Shiblu, president of the Feni Alia Kamil Madrasa unit of Chhatra Dal.
According to local and party sources, Shiblu had been actively protesting against a group involved in extortion, illegal soil trading, and dominance in the Fatehpur area under the banner of BNP.
Attack and Arson
Witnesses said that a group of attackers stormed his house in the evening and, at one stage, set the dwelling on fire before fleeing the scene. Locals initially tried to control the blaze, and later, firefighters from Feni arrived and managed to bring the fire under control.
Victim’s Statement
Shiblu alleged that the attack was planned and retaliatory:
“After August 5, a group using the BNP identity has been involved in extortion, illegal soil business, and other unethical activities, damaging the party’s reputation. I protested against their oppression on common people. In retaliation, they attacked my brother in the afternoon and later burned down my house in the evening.”
He also demanded a fair investigation and immediate arrest of those responsible.
Party Reactions
Salah Uddin Mamun, president of Feni district Chhatra Dal, claimed:
“A notorious extortionist group has effectively held Shorshodi Union hostage under the guise of BNP. Shiblu became a target because he protested against their illegal activities.”
Meanwhile, Advocate Nurul Islam, president of Shorshodi Union BNP, termed the incident:
“Undoubtedly a disgraceful act,” urging authorities to take strict action against extortionists and illegal traders immediately.
Police Response
Sajal Kanti Das, Investigation Officer of Feni Model Police Station, said:
“Police have already inspected the scene. Initially, the incident appears to be linked to previous enmity over vested interests. Further details will emerge after a thorough investigation.”
