BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas left Dhaka for Singapore on Sunday for advanced medical treatment. An air ambulance carrying him departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11:17 am.
Sources said the air ambulance is expected to reach Singapore after about a four-hour flight, where Abbas will be admitted to Singapore General Hospital for further treatment.
Earlier in the morning, the air ambulance arrived in Dhaka from Singapore at 9:10 am. Abbas was later transported from Evercare Hospital in the capital to the airport by ambulance before boarding the aircraft.
Accompanying him to Singapore are his wife, Afroza Abbas; son, Yasir Abbas; and Evercare Hospital physician, Dr. Zafar Iqbal.
Mirza Abbas fell suddenly ill and lost consciousness during Iftar on Wednesday (March 11), after which he was admitted to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. A medical board of neurologists was formed to monitor his condition.
Doctors later detected complications in a CT scan, and on Friday (March 13), he underwent brain surgery that lasted nearly three hours and forty-five minutes. After the operation, he was moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for observation.
Due to the need for advanced treatment, doctors recommended that he be taken abroad.
