MP Hannan Masud was attacked while visiting an area affected by post-election violence in Hatia, Noakhali. Clashes are ongoing between his supporters and opponents over the incident. Two of his supporters were injured in the incident.
The incident took place at around 1 pm on Wednesday (February 25) in the Prakasam Bazar area of Chanandi Union in Hatia Upazila. At one stage of the clash, MP Hannan Masud took a position on the road at the scene. Two NCP supporters injured in the attack have been sent to the Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
According to local sources, MP Hannan Masud went to the area to inquire about the common people affected by the election violence. When he reached the project market, miscreants attacked his convoy. When the news spread, a clash broke out between his supporters and the attackers. Currently, there is extreme tension in the area as both sides have taken positions on both sides of the road.
Hannan Masud said that when he went to inspect the project market, he was attacked by identified terrorists led by Belal Majhi. He also said that he will not leave his position until the attackers are arrested. He claimed that Belal Majhi was involved in the attack on former MP Fazlul Azim in 2018 as well.
Hatia Police Station OC Saiful Alam said he is present at the scene. Police are working to maintain law and order.
