A new political coalition consisting of the Nationalist Citizens’ Party (NCP), Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party), Rashtro Songskar Andolon, and UP Bangladesh (United People’s Bangladesh) is set to make its formal debut tomorrow.
Sources indicate that discussions are currently ongoing with Gono Odhikar Parishad and various parties within the Gonotontro Moncho to join this emerging political front.
Potential Names and Objectives
Several names are under consideration for the new coalition, including the “July Alliance,” “Democratic Reform Alliance,” or “Third Stream Like-minded Alliance.”
The primary objective of the alliance is to implement the aspirations of the July mass uprising. Leaders of the coalition have stated that they aim to take a firm stance against “religious fascism” and extortion.
Electoral Strategy
Partners in the upcoming alliance have revealed that alongside forming the coalition, they are also in discussions regarding electoral understandings with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami.
Speaking on the matter, AB Party Chairman Mujibur Rahman Monju stated that the parties plan to contest the elections collectively. However, he emphasized that the focus is not merely on seat-sharing but on the implementation of their political pledges.
Mujibur Rahman Monju further noted that the alliance might extend support to promising candidates from older political parties, particularly those who played a significant role during the July uprising.
