From mid to late September, Tarique Rahman’s love for animals and environmental consciousness has touched the hearts of animal lovers across Bangladesh.
On September 13, he virtually joined the “Animals and Life Fair” at the China-Bangladesh Friendship Conference Center in Dhaka, where he emphasized the importance of human compassion and empathy for animals. Tarique Rahman stated, “Over one and a half decades of losing democratic and political rights have bred intolerance in many. Overcoming this intolerance, embracing humanity, and rejecting cruelty must be our pledge.” He further noted that when humans ensure safe habitats for animals, it reflects the moral maturity and ethical progress of society.
As the chief patron of the Bangladesh Animal Welfare Association, Tarique Rahman personally funded an ambulance for animals. Adnan Azad, President of Save Wild And Nature (SWAN), confirmed that the ambulance service will initially cater to critically ill animals for free, while well-off pet owners can also access it for a minimal fee.
Following this, on September 14, under Tarique Rahman’s directive, the Bangladesh Nationalist Student Party (Chatra Dal) arranged food for street dogs in Dhaka. The initiative was implemented under the supervision of the party’s Joint General Secretary Riaz Anwar Hossain and co-organized by Dr. M. A. Taiful Haque from a private medical and dental college. Food distribution took place in Dhaka’s Bailey Road area.
Later, on September 28, in observance of World Rabies Day, the Bangladesh Animal Welfare Association provided free rabies vaccinations for animals in various locations across the capital.
Tarique Rahman’s message remains clear: “Save lives, save animals, and make the country a safe haven for all living beings.” His words linking human rights and democracy with the protection of ecosystems and wildlife are matched by tangible action. The ambulance service, street dog feeding initiative, and free vaccination campaign collectively reinforce Tarique Rahman’s image as one of Bangladesh’s most prominent animal lovers.
