Mamata in Assembly: “Modi is a Thief, Amit Shah is a Thief, BJP is a Thief.” Over Harassment of Bengalis

Mamata

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee voiced strong anger in the special Assembly session over the harassment of Bengalis in India. On Thursday (September 4), during her speech, she directly branded Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and the BJP as “thieves.”

According to a report by Deccan Herald, the Trinamool Congress-led state government tried to pass a resolution condemning the attacks on Bengali workers in BJP-ruled states. However, BJP legislators continuously disrupted the session, creating chaos.

In her live-broadcast speech, Mamata declared:

“Those who oppress Bengalis and deceive and mislead people are the biggest thieves—Modi is a thief, Amit Shah is a thief, and the BJP is a thief. A party of vote thieves, a party of oppressors, a party of looters. Remove BJP, save the nation.”

Calling the BJP “unconstitutional, undemocratic, and illegal,” she added, “They are a national disgrace. A day will come when people of Bengal will not want to see a single BJP representative here.”

Mamata further accused the BJP of deliberately erasing Bengal’s role in the Renaissance, the freedom struggle, and nation-building after independence. She said, “The Sangh family had no contribution to India’s independence. Partition, communalism—all were part of their conspiracy.”

She also mocked Modi’s foreign policy:

“Sometimes he bows at America’s feet, sometimes Russia’s, China’s, or Israel’s. Through this, he has sold the dignity of the nation.”

Describing the BJP’s governance as “colonial and authoritarian,” Mamata issued a warning:
“In Bengal, we will bring you down to zero. The downfall of the BJP is only a matter of time.”
