Rajshahi Schoolgirl Stabs Teacher After Cry for ‘Help’

A tenth-grade student stabbed a teacher in Rajshahi after luring him close by shouting for “help.” The incident occurred around 1:45 pm on Tuesday in the Sapura area of the city. A video of the attack has since gone viral on social media.

The victim, Maruf Karkhi (34), an assistant teacher of Bangla at Rajshahi Cantonment Public School and College, sustained injuries to his neck and hand. He was treated at Rajshahi Combined Military Hospital (CMH), requiring three stitches, before being released home.

According to school officials, the girl, aged 16, had previously studied at the same institution until class eight. She was expelled in 2023 with a transfer certificate (TC) due to “unruly behavior.” She is now a student at another school.

The attack is believed to have been motivated by lingering resentment over the expulsion. Witnesses said the student was waiting outside the school and began shouting “help, help” as Maruf was leaving on his scooter. When he stopped to assist, she suddenly stabbed him with a knife aimed at his throat. Maruf tried to block the strike with his hand, sustaining cuts in the process. Locals intervened and detained the girl before alerting the school authorities.

After the incident, the girl was handed over to her parents. No legal action has been taken so far. A video of the event shows her hurling abusive language at the teacher.

Rajshahi Cantonment Public School and College officials have refrained from commenting further, while Boalia Police Station confirmed that no complaint has been filed by the institution.
