The Nationalist Citizens’ Platform (NCP) launched its month-long nationwide “July Walkathon” this morning from Gaibandha with a deeply emotional tribute to one of the key martyrs of the July Uprising, Abu Sayed. Central leaders of the party began the day by visiting Abu Sayed’s grave and meeting his grieving family.
In a poignant moment, Monowara Begum—the mother of Abu Sayed—placed her hand on the head of NCP Central Convener Nahid Islam and offered heartfelt prayers. Nahid, known widely as the one-point demand announcer of the July Uprising, stood silently as tears rolled down the cheeks of both Monowara and her husband, Md. Maqbul Hossain. NCP leaders present, including Member-Secretary Akhtar Hossen and several senior coordinators, were visibly moved and joined in comforting the bereaved family.
After offering special munajats at the grave, the delegation met with other family members and reaffirmed their commitment to build the “new Bangladesh of Abu Sayed’s dream.”
Speaking briefly to the press before departing,
Nahid Islam said, “This journey is not just a protest—it’s a promise to the mothers of our martyrs that their sacrifice will not be forgotten.”
The walkathon formally began from the Sadullapur Shaheed Minar premises. The day-long route covers multiple upazilas of Gaibandha district—Sadullapur, Palashbari, Sundarganj, and Gaibandha Sadar—before entering Rangpur city in the afternoon.
The “July Walkathon” will continue throughout the month to mobilize people behind the one-point demand for a pro-people democratic transition and justice for those killed during the July Uprising.
