Enough Is Enough : China Urges the World to Right the Historic Wrong Against Palestine

In a powerful call to the international community, China has urged the world to finally end the “historic injustice” inflicted upon the Palestinian people—once and for all. Speaking at a United Nations event, Geng Shuang, China’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, emphasized the urgent need for a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of a sovereign and independent Palestinian state.

Marking the 77th anniversary of the Nakba—the mass displacement of Palestinians following the creation of Israel in 1948—Geng stated that the injustice against the Palestinian people remains not only unresolved but has worsened with time. “The historical injustice suffered by the Palestinian people has not only remained unaddressed but has become more severe,” he said.

According to a statement from China’s UN mission, Geng condemned Israel’s tightening blockade on Gaza, which has pushed over two million people toward an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe. He highlighted how the expansion of settlements in the West Bank and escalating settler violence continue to shrink the living space for Palestinians, eroding the very foundation of the two-state solution.

Since March 2, Israel has blocked food, medicine, and humanitarian aid from entering Gaza, worsening the already dire conditions in the besieged territory. Since October 2023, Israeli attacks have reportedly killed nearly 53,000 Palestinians in Gaza—most of them women and children.

Ambassador Geng called on Israel to abide by relevant UN resolutions, comply with provisional measures of the International Court of Justice, respect its advisory opinions, and immediately cease all hostilities.

Without naming the United States directly, Geng urged countries with significant influence over Israel to maintain a neutral and objective stance and to take meaningful actions to de-escalate the conflict in Gaza and reduce tensions in the West Bank.

Reaffirming China’s commitment to a comprehensive, just, and lasting resolution to the Palestinian question, Geng said: “China will continue to work tirelessly with all peace-loving nations to realize the two-state solution and ensure that Nakba Day remains forever in the past.”

The Nakba, meaning “catastrophe,” refers to the mass displacement of Palestinians in 1948 during the creation of Israel. It is commemorated globally every year on May 15.
