Young Woman Gang-Raped at Tea Garden in Habiganj; One Arrested, Another Absconding

A young woman was gang-raped while visiting Surma Tea Garden in Madhabpur, Habiganj during the Eid holidays. Police have arrested Jasim Mia, son of Ali Azam from Parmanandapur village, in connection with the incident, while another accused, Shahin Mia, remains absconding. The victim’s gold earrings were recovered from the arrested suspect.

According to police and the case statement, the incident took place on March 23 in the afternoon, when the victim went to the tea garden with an acquaintance. In the evening, while they were walking inside the garden, two men chased them with sticks, shouting “robber,” causing the accompanying युवक to flee.

The attackers then covered the victim’s mouth and forcibly took her to a secluded area inside the tea garden, where they intimidated her and raped her one after another. After the assault, they beat her and snatched her gold earrings.

Later, the victim’s companion informed the police. Acting on the information, police conducted an operation and rescued the victim from the spot. During interrogation, police said the arrested suspect has prima facie admitted involvement, and the identity of the absconding accused has also been confirmed.

The victim has been sent to Habiganj Sadar Modern Hospital for a medical examination.

Officer-in-Charge of Madhabpur Police Station, Md. Sohel Rana, confirmed the incident and said that the arrested accused has multiple previous rape cases. A case has been filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act along with relevant sections of the Penal Code.
