Police recovered the body of a student, Kaniskha Majhi, who was found hanging in a residential hall at Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Wednesday. The body was discovered in Room 413 of Sher-e-Bangla Hall around noon.
Confirming the incident, Assistant Proctor Dr. Mohammad Abdur Razzak said:
“We received the news and immediately informed the police. They came and recovered the body. Initially, it is believed to be a suicide.”
According to hall sources, most students had gone home for the Eid holidays, but Kaniskha Majhi remained alone in his room. Around 2:00 pm, a student from a nearby room tried to call him but received no response.
After several attempts, suspicion arose, and additional students were called. They eventually broke the window glass and found Kaniskha hanging from the ceiling fan inside the room. The matter was then reported to the hall administration and university authorities.
The incident has shocked the student body and the university community, leaving them in grief.
