Law enforcement authorities have arrested two men in connection with the discovery of a beheaded youth in Nesarabad, Pirojpur. The information was confirmed on Sunday (15 March) during a joint press briefing by RAB and Pirojpur police, held at the office of Pirojpur Superintendent of Police, Mohammad Manzur Ahmed Siddiqui.
The arrested suspects are:
- Tariqul Islam alias Samrat (34), son of Amir Hossain from Kashipur, Barishal, a local medicine businessman
- Abedin Majhi alias Raju (42), son of Babul Hossain Majhi from Durgapur, Pirojpur, a professional drug dealer
According to the SP, both the victim and the suspects were involved in drug-related activities. The murder was reportedly pre-planned over disputes involving women and drugs.
SP Siddiqui stated that further details will emerge as the suspects are interrogated. However, the victim’s head and the knife used in the murder were disposed of in the river and have not yet been recovered.
The incident occurred on Friday, 13 March, when the suspects lured the victim, Gopal Chandra Das, son of Parimal Chandra Das from Kashipur, onto a motorcycle and took him to a brickfield by the Sadhya River in Purba Sarengkathi, Nesarabad. There, he was killed and beheaded, with his head thrown into the river. The body was later recovered by Nesarabad police, and the victim’s brother, Manik Chandra Das, filed a murder case against unknown persons.
Authorities sought RAB’s assistance, and through rapid operations supported by technology, the suspects were arrested. CCTV footage analysis revealed a motorcycle carrying three people entering the brickfield at 3 p.m. on the day of the murder. Shortly after the killing, Raju and Samrat were seen leaving the scene on the same motorcycle.
Following the investigation, RAB arrested Samrat on Saturday afternoon from Kashipur, Barishal, and Raju the same night from Steamer Ghat, Barishal. Authorities also recovered the motorcycle and a hammer used in the murder.
