Jamaat-e-Islami Invites Prime Minister Tarek Rahman and Family to Iftar, Signaling Political Courtesy

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has formally invited Prime Minister Tarek Rahman and his family to attend an Iftar event scheduled for 28 February. On 25 February, a representative delegation of the party met the Prime Minister at the Secretariat to hand over the invitation. Jamaat’s Secretary General, Mia Golam Parwar, confirmed that the Prime Minister warmly accepted the invitation.

This marks the first official courtesy meeting between the Prime Minister and Jamaat leaders since the formation of the current government. During the meeting, the Prime Minister inquired about the health of the opposition leader and discussed the current political climate, emphasizing that all political debates should revolve around the National Parliament.

Jamaat leaders expressed that while legitimate political movements on the streets are expected in a democracy, past negative practices should not be repeated. They emphasized that it is not yet the time to evaluate the current government and that the nation looks forward to positive developments in the coming days.

Mia Golam Parwar highlighted the importance of constructive dialogue and coordination between the ruling party and the opposition for national progress. He noted that the meeting reflects a new era of political courtesy and mutual respect, which could strengthen Bangladesh’s democratic journey.

The Iftar on 28 February is expected to host other leading political figures as well, signaling potential warming of ties and collaboration between government and opposition factions, according to political analysts.
