Afghanistan has announced that it will offer support to Iran if the United States launches any military attack and Iran requests assistance. The announcement was made on Sunday (February 15) by Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesman of the Taliban government.
Mujahid stated,
“Afghans will show solidarity with Iran and will provide help if Iran seeks it.”
He added that Iran has recently demonstrated restraint and that both countries expect no war to break out between Washington and Tehran.
Mujahid emphasized that Afghanistan is not in favor of war and seeks peaceful solutions through dialogue. Discussions between Iran and the US are ongoing, particularly over Iran’s nuclear program.
The region has been tense over the past few days, with US aircraft carriers, including the Abraham Lincoln, deployed to the Middle East. Another carrier is reportedly on its way. If diplomatic talks fail, there are concerns of a potential US military strike on Iran. Regional countries are attempting to prevent escalation due to fears of economic and humanitarian consequences across the Middle East.
