Mango Diplomacy: 1,000 Kilo Mango Mission to Modi

Principal Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus has sent 1,000 kg of broken mangoes to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi — as a gesture of seasonal sweetness. Government insiders whisper that this fruity mission is part of a diplomatic recipe to “sweeten” the ties between the two neighborly kitchens.

According to sources in the Bangladesh High Commission, the mangoes will land in New Delhi on Monday — not just for Modi, but to flavor the desks of diplomats, the corridors of the PMO, and the palettes of senior officials.

But Modi isn’t the only one getting mango love. Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister of West Bengal, is also getting a share of Bangladesh’s fruity affection. And last Thursday, 300 kg of Haribhanga mangoes were gifted to the Chief Minister of Tripura — packed in 60 cartons through the Akhaura land port.

This annual tradition, widely known as “Aam Diplomacy,” is not new. Mangoes go out, and pineapples come in. Yes, in return, Tripura sends their juicy ‘Queen’ pineapples — an edible handshake over borders.
