Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdho, the twin brother of July Uprising martyr Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mugdho, has officially joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). On Tuesday night, November 4, 2025, around 9 PM, Snigdho received the party’s primary membership at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan.
The membership form was handed over to him by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in the virtual presence of the party’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. Senior BNP leaders Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Dhaka North BNP convener Aminul Haque, and Mugdho’s father Mostafizur Rahman were also present at the event.
Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mugdho became a widely recognized symbol of youth sacrifice during the July-August 2024 student uprising, when he was shot dead by security forces while protesting for justice and democratic reform. His death galvanized nationwide outrage and became a rallying cry for the student-led movement that eventually forced major political shifts in Bangladesh.
By joining BNP, Snigdho now steps into the political arena his brother helped inspire, marking an emotional and symbolic moment for many who still remember Mugdho as one of the faces of the July martyrs.
