The conflict between teachers over the post of principal of Badalgachhi Women’s College in Naogaon has taken a public turn. Two teachers have even gotten into a fight over the same chair. There is a tug-of-war over the possession of the chair.
The incident took place at the Women’s College on Sunday (June 29) at 1 pm. Tension arose over the occupation of the chair by the principal of the two groups.
At that time, the HSAC examinees were finishing the exam and submitting their notebooks. At that time, Imamul Hossain claimed to be the principal and sat on the chair next to Principal Mahbub Alam. Right then, tension spread between the teachers on both sides. It instantly turned into a fight.
According to sources at Badalgachhi Women’s College, on August 27 last year, some students of the college alleged irregularities against Badalgachhi Women’s College Principal Mahbub Alam. To bring the situation under control, Upazila Executive Officer Mahbub Hasan temporarily suspended Mahbub Alam from the post of principal. When the post of principal became vacant, Lutfar Rahman became the president of the new ad hoc committee.
Then, the committee chairman, Lutfar Rahman, illegally appointed Mumtaz Jahan as the acting principal, violating seniority. When Mahbub Alam, who was temporarily suspended, appealed against the ad hoc committee, the National University issued a notification about forcibly resigning or not complying with the rules.
In this situation, the National University approved Fazle Huda Babul as the chairman of the ad hoc committee as per the rules. In light of the decision of the meeting held on May 8, the chairman and members of the ad hoc committee unanimously retained Principal Mahbub Alam in his post.
Although he initially refused to speak, Imamul Hossain later claimed himself as the principal and said, “When I filed a writ in the High Court, the previous ad hoc committee suspended it. As a result, the previous president, Lutfar Rahma,n made me the principal. So today, I have taken charge as the acting principal of Badalgachhi Women’s College.”
Mahbub Alam, the current principal of the college, said, “They could not show me any circular. Just filing a writ in the High Court will not do. I will have to show the High Court’s verdict. We do not know anything about this.”
And in this regard, teachers and students of the women’s college say that the fight to occupy chairs in the college has been going on for several months. This is causing great harm to our education. There is some kind of trouble almost every day. We want a fair environment for education.
Ad hoc committee chairman Fazle Huda Babul said, “The High Court has filed a writ petition, and both sides will be heard. Whoever the verdict favors will sit in that chair. If educated people create a ruckus before that, it is truly sad.”
The unrest over the seizure of the chair of the principal of Badalgachhi Women’s College could have a long-term impact on education if not resolved. Locals are seeking administrative intervention to resolve the issue.
