Defamation Case Filed Against Nasiruddin Patwari Over Allegations Involving Mirza Abbas

Mirza Abbas, Nasiruddin Patwari

A defamation case has been filed against Nasiruddin Patwari, the Chief Coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP), for allegedly making threatening and defamatory remarks against Mirza Abbas, Political Adviser to the Prime Minister and BNP leader.

On Sunday morning, Ashraful Islam, President of the Ramna Thana BNP, filed the petition in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Hasan Shahadat. After recording the plaintiff’s statement, the court issued a summons ordering Nasiruddin Patwari to appear before it.

The legal action was confirmed by the plaintiff’s lawyer, Md. Amirul Islam Amir.

Background of the Dispute

The allegations stem from the 13th National Parliamentary Election, where both Mirza Abbas and Nasiruddin Patwari contested the Dhaka-8 constituency. According to the case statement, Mirza Abbas won the seat with 59,366 votes, while Patwari secured 54,127 votes.

The plaintiff alleges that since his electoral defeat, Patwari has consistently engaged in a smear campaign, using social media and various online news portals to circulate “false, fabricated, and derogatory” statements aimed at tarnishing Mirza Abbas’s political reputation.

Specific Allegations

The complaint highlights a recent escalation on March 5, when defamatory comments made by Patwari reportedly went viral on Facebook and were picked up by several online news outlets.

“The accused has been intentionally spreading lies to malign the character and long-standing political career of Mirza Abbas,” the complaint stated, further noting that such actions constitute a serious breach of political etiquette and have caused significant personal and professional distress.

The court’s summons marks the beginning of formal legal proceedings into the matter.
