Savar Serial Killer Used Fake Identity; Lived in Mosque to Mask Crimes

Savar serial killing case

Startling new details have emerged following the arrest of the suspected serial killer in Savar. Police revealed today that the suspect, who went by the name Mashiur Rahman Khan Samrat, was using a fake identity to evade law enforcement and had been living a double life as a vagrant to mask his violent crimes.

According to Savar Model Thana police, “Samrat” is not the suspect’s real name. Investigators believe he originally hailed from outside Savar and may have committed crimes elsewhere before seeking refuge in the area under a pseudonym. By adopting the lifestyle of a homeless wanderer, he managed to stay under the radar for months despite committing a series of brutal murders.

From Mosque to ‘Killing Zone’

The police investigation uncovered that after arriving in Savar, the suspect spent most of his nights at the Savar Model Mosque near the bus stand. His transition into a more secluded and dangerous lifestyle reportedly began after his first alleged murder in the area.

On July 4, 2025, an elderly woman named Asma Begum was murdered. Shortly after this incident, the suspect moved his base to the abandoned Savar Municipal Community Center. He established a living space on the ground floor of the derelict building, which would eventually become the site where five more bodies were discovered over the next five months.

Police Surveillance and Final Arrest

Arman Ali, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Savar Model Thana, stated that the abandoned community center had been under regular police surveillance due to the frequent recovery of bodies from the premises.

“We had noticed the suspect loitering in the area and he was never entirely off our radar,” OC Arman Ali explained. “However, due to a lack of concrete evidence or a direct ‘clue,’ we could not bring him into custody earlier. The recent CCTV footage finally provided the breakthrough we needed.”

Identifying the Victims

While the suspect has confessed to the killings, the police are now facing the difficult task of identifying all the victims. Many of the bodies were found in a decomposed or charred state, making immediate identification nearly impossible.

“Our priority now is identifying the victims and verifying their backgrounds,” the OC added. “We also suspect he may be involved in other crimes beyond these six murders. A thorough investigation is underway to uncover his true identity and his full criminal history.”

The suspect remains in custody as forensic teams work to match DNA samples with missing person reports from across the region.
