Career Talk “How to Pursue a Career in Literature?” Held at Chittagong Independent University

The Creative Writers’ Club of Chittagong Independent University (CIU) hosted an inspiring career talk titled “How to Pursue a Career in Literature?” at the CIU Auditorium, Jamal Khan. The event explored how young writers can turn their passion for storytelling into a sustainable career, blending creativity with purpose.

The session was anchored by Mumtahana Islam, Media Secretary of the club, and featured Abdullah Al Fahad, young writer and Assistant Professor at Eastern University, as the keynote speaker. Speaking with warmth and sincerity, Fahad shared insights from his own literary journey—his struggles, inspirations, and the discipline behind writing as a craft.

“Writing is not a story of instant success,” said Fahad. “It’s born from patience, deep reading, and self-questioning. If literature becomes a way of discovering your own truth, that is the real success.”

Fahad, known both as a translator and novelist, has translated acclaimed works such as 1000 Yards, The Giver, and The Call of the Wild. His novels Shohor, Norok, Casa Diablo, and Bullet Kingba Bhalobasay have been widely appreciated by readers. A graduate in Anthropology from the University of Dhaka, Fahad currently teaches at Eastern University.

The session was presided over by Professor Charmain Rodriguez, Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at CIU. In her remarks, she highlighted the social significance of literature:

“Creativity is not just a gift of intellect—it’s a social responsibility. If our youth learn to understand society through their writing, literature can become their strongest weapon.”

Shakila Mustaque, moderator of the Creative Writers’ Club, noted that the goal of the event was to guide young writers toward viewing literature not only as art but as a meaningful professional pursuit.

The programme concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony attended by faculty members, the Dean, and club representatives. The event was supported by CtgPost and Gonotaar as media partners, The Common Run as content partner, and Nobojagoron as community partner—marking an evening where words met purpose and passion met possibility.
