Cox’s Bazar Trip Sparks Show-Cause Notices for Five Senior NCP Leaders

Hasnat, Sarjis Among Five NCP Leaders Summoned Over Unnotified Personal Trip

The National Citizen Party (NCP) has issued show-cause notices to five of its senior central leaders for embarking on a personal trip to Cox’s Bazar without notifying the party, on a day marked as the first anniversary of the July Uprising—one of the most significant events in recent political history.

The notices, signed by NCP’s Joint Member Secretary (Office Affairs) Saleh Uddin Sifat, were individually addressed to the five leaders on Wednesday and later shared publicly through the party’s verified Facebook page.

The leaders who have been asked to explain their actions are:

  • Hasnat Abdullah, Chief Organizer (Southern Region)
  • Sarjis Alam, Chief Organizer (Northern Region)
  • Nasiruddin Patwary, Chief Coordinator
  • Dr. Tasnim Zara, Senior Joint Member Secretary
  • Khaled Saifullah, Joint Convener

The letters stated that on August 5—“a date of symbolic national importance marking the anniversary of the July Uprising”—these leaders had travelled to Cox’s Bazar on a personal tour without informing or seeking permission from the party’s political council.

“In such a context,” the letter continues, “you are hereby instructed to appear in person before Convener Nahid Islam and Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain within the next 24 hours and submit a written explanation regarding the reasoning and circumstances behind your decision.”

The disciplinary move has sparked internal conversations within the party and its supporter base, particularly as the NCP continues to push for greater internal discipline and political maturity in the wake of its rising public profile.
