The capital city of Dhaka has recorded 198 murder cases over the last ten months, averaging approximately 20 homicides per month, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) announced on Tuesday.
The alarming rate points to an ongoing challenge in maintaining law and order, with police attributing the killings to various factors, including family feuds, long-standing animosities, political conflicts, and battles for local dominance.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Media) Muhammad Talebur Rahman disclosed the statistics, confirming the grim average for the current year. “The capital records an average of about 20 murders every month. The rate has held steady this year,” he stated. He added, however, that the police have successfully solved the mystery behind most of the incidents.
